Introducing Follow-up Questions on IB Mock

Real interviewers don't stop at your first answer. Now IB Mock drills deeper with dynamic follow-up questions that probe your understanding—just like a real interview.

What Launched

You can now enable dynamic follow-up questions in your mock interviews on IB Mock. When enabled, the AI interviewer will ask 1-3 relevant follow-ups after you answer each main question—probing your understanding just like a real interviewer would.

Why It Matters

In a real IB interview, answering the initial question is just the beginning. Interviewers probe deeper to see if you actually understand what you're saying—or if you've just memorized a script.

Follow-up questions are where many interviews are won or lost. They test whether you can think on your feet, explain the "why" behind your answers, and handle edge cases you didn't prepare for.

This feature is part of our broader commitment to building the most realistic interview prep experience possible. IB Mock is one of the few products in the space to offer true, real-time voice-to-voice interviews—no tap-to-talk, no text boxes, just natural conversation that mirrors how you'll actually communicate in an interview. Dynamic follow-ups are the next step in that direction: making the AI interviewer behave more like a real person who listens, reacts, and probes deeper based on what you actually say.

How It Works

When you enable follow-up questions, the AI interviewer will ask 1-3 relevant follow-ups after you answer each main question from the question bank. These follow-ups are generated dynamically based on your answer and the original question.

For technical questions, follow-ups might:

  • Drill into the "why" behind your answer
  • Ask you to break down formulas or concepts you mentioned
  • Probe edge cases or exceptions
  • Ask for real-world applications or examples

For behavioral questions, follow-ups might:

  • Ask for more specific details about situations you described
  • Probe the reasoning behind your decisions
  • Ask about lessons learned or what you'd do differently

The number of follow-ups varies based on the question and your answer—some questions warrant deeper exploration, others don't.

Experimental Feature

Follow-up questions is currently an experimental feature and may have bugs or unexpected behavior. We're actively seeking user feedback to refine it.

You can enable this feature when configuring your interview—look for the "Enable Follow-up Questions" toggle in the "Customize Your Experience" step towards the end of the interview configuration. If you encounter any issues or have feedback, please let us know using the chat icon in the bottom right corner.
